Post Vertical wire supported by metal mast
I am cosidering using an Inverted L antenna for 160 through to 40 Metres. One of the options being considered is supporting
the vertical section by stand offs from a Versatower. Would there be any issues of tuning / matching the antenna?

I use an inverted L on 160 which is supported from a versatower at about 45ft, the vertical section of the inverted L is positioned around 10ft away from the base of the tower rising up at an angle towards the tower where it held up about 2ft away from the rotator cage, the end of horizontal section is supported at 30ft or so. I get decent results with it, I've not tried it with the vertical section running parallel to the tower so can't say if there is any difference in performance.

This is how I feed it, I have 2 tappings on the coil if I want to work lower on the band and just swap them over manually.

It's difficult to say whether the mast will have much effect - a lot will depend on whether the mast is resonant at any of your operating frequencies. Even if it IS resonant the most likely effect is some change in radiation pattern - in other words the RF will still go somewhere; you'd be unlucky if the mast actually introduced some loss mechanism.

Thanks for the replies, I am looking into applying for Planning Permission for an Antenna Mast and thinking of putting in for worse case scenario  I have alternate plans so will have to see how things pan out.

I had a similar type antenna years ago that also used the tower as a support for the vertical section and didn't notice any problems, in mine the vertical section was separated by approx 18" from the tower.

Many thanks, that's about the distance I was thinking of using. :good:
