Which Cobwebb antenna design?
Hi all, Looking to build a cobwebb antenna, due to it's size and allegedly nice reports on receive and transmit. I know that the G3TPW plans are online, but i'm curious to see what plans everyone else has followed when constructing theirs. Is there one plan which has an advantage over the other? I found a list of designs here: http://www.dxzone.com/catalog/Antennas/CobWebb/Thanks all Adam

Re: Which Cobwebb antenna design?
Steve's G3TXQ design would be the way i'd go if i were to build a web . Look on his website for info . single wire elements, no working out shorting points etc .

To be honest I have thought about construction and have seen a few home made....
but also having seen the G3TXQ one ..I think I would be hard pressed to build one that looks as professional and of that quality whilst still saving much money. get it bought !

Re: Which Cobwebb antenna design?
less than £100 to build on yourself , easily .. the base can be had from AMTOOLS for £25 ( or was) the poles are a bit steep from them but you can get poles 10 a penny off e bay and fishing shops. 2 cores and a bit of rg174 ( i think it is ) for the transformer , bit of wire for the elements and a box to house the transformer ..
there is nothing to make a mess of really .

your right billy it just they always seem to look a bit crooked or "saggy" ..if you were a dab hand with tools and stuff then maybe you could build an exact copy ...but I am not ....so I can't my school projects in metalwork and woodwork are now considered psychedelic works of abstract art .. i mean they were supposed to be an ashtray and a mugtree ...but nobody could see that ...except me

Re: Which Cobwebb antenna design?
I have the G3TPW Cobwebb and it works extremely well at fifty foot, I should mention the use of a good stout pair of gardening gloves is pretty much mandatory when constructing to avoid slivers of fibreglass in the hands. There's quite a few alternative designs out there, but the G3TPW gets my vote as it delivers the goods!

Looks like £100 is the starting bid; his "Buy It Now" is £140: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/THE-COBWEBB-A ... 3cc83aae48Still sounds like good value! 73, Steve G3TXQ

Re: Which Cobwebb antenna design?
OOPS just realised i sad TXQ for the cobweb, can't imagine why that name sprung to mind when thinking of antennas!! ....it is actually TPW that builds the cobwebs http://www.g3tpw.co.uk/.....although I am sure if Steve wanted to he could make the Rolls Royce of Multiband compact antennas monsta wrote: To be honest I have thought about construction and have seen a few home made....

Steve has designed an easier to build version based on the folded dipoles matched at the feedpoint using a transformer as opposed to Webb's design which uses tapping points for each dipole. http://www.karinya.net/g3txq ....it's in there somewhere.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Originally I had come across the G3TPW plans, based off the commercial antenna, but was wondering if there were any other better plans. Then came across the G3TXQ (didn't know he was on the forum...) and they look a bit simpler. I know I can buy one for £100, but I want to see if I can build mine cheaper, but also give myself a project (I'm off uni for summer, so tons of time ) I'll probably start building it in a couple of weeks once I get the parts together and will update this thread If i run into problems. Also a good place if I have questions for Mr G3TXQ himself. However, need to build my 2m yagi and 6m yagi first Adam

Re: Which Cobwebb antenna design?
Hi Adam
Even though I own an original G3TPW Cobwebb I would advise you to follow Steve's (G3TXQ) design if you intend to homebrew. His variation on a theme is a lot less complicated and just as efficient.
The Cobwebb Revealed document, which purports to be a breakdown of the TPW design, is full of inaccuracies to the point of being near laughable and will only lead to a large amount of frustration.
Regards
