Post 6m and 8m
Things are starting to hot up with the new solar cycle and the MUF is rising, ZS6WAB/B on 40.675MHz has been in here 2 days running around lunchtime, up to 579 today on a HF Hexbeam. And southern EU has had 6m propagation to VK8, VK6, FR, 3B8 etc so it's looking promising for us as the cycle progresses.

There was very little F2 & TEP last cycle so it's been over 20 years since we've had decent 6m propagation outside of the Es season, finally it looks like it might happen.

I sat watching Mark EI3KD working lots of PYs yesterday evening on 50.313

I only decoded one in GG67 but I guess thats better than nothing.

There were people calling LUs as well

saw you give ST2NH RR73, so not quite dead.

EDIT!!

is JHC's signal as wide on you, as it is here?

he's not the strongest on the display, but he's by far the widest!

Yes, my intuition was right for once - great to get Sudan, don't think I've ever seen ST on the band before. Strong too, peaking +15dB, seems legit, correct beam heading. That's the first long-haul 6m DX I've seen in October in 21 years.

The Italians and French were working YB too.

JHC wasn't wide with me but I'm a long way south and was beamed away from him.

the ST was -16 here at his strongest, first time I've seen it on the band too.

currently got ZD7 in.

It was certainly nice to hear the ZD7s in so well this afternoon

ZD7BG was a cracking signal.

This evenings opening to PY was pretty spectacular as well

Lets hope theres a lot more of this to come.

Good time to put the beam back up Daz :o))

Certainly I hope Cycle 25 will be a good one, been quite a while since I managed 2 new DXCC and 8 new squares in one day.
First PY's in just after 1700 & still have a few weak in now.

Post Re: 6m and 8m
I had a hunch that 6m might open this autumn so didn't completely dismantle the beam, so it was fairly quick to get it back up.

What a great day, 1 new DXCC (ST), two new fields/grids KK (ST2NH) and JH (V51WW), and the icing on the cake working ZD7BG on both CW and SSB. Missed the PYs as I'd gone QRT for dinner by then.

Suspect there will be more of this - JAs absolutely booming in on 10m FT4 this morning, just gave one a +31dB report with my Hexbeam. Fingers crossed for 6m later.

Yes was a good day yesterday on 6m.

DX is starting already , earlier than I expected , think its down to bigger antennas , more power and FT8 , all helps .
TEP and F2 and god knows what else ! ;)

usual north to south paths opening up.
wait till the east west paths start !
That is if the sun keeps on delivering of course :good:

worked ST ZD7 V51 TZ and PY , 2 new# so happy . tower was right down too.
TZ was true 599 on CW, reckon F2 prop there

good news is with all the old TV transmitters gone we may hear more but of course they were a brilliant indicator of prop to the east
just hope when true F2 appears that ops will go to CW and SSB , far more exciting :good:

6m opened again last night, worked PY - others were working LU, CE and CX. What was usual is that this was well after sunset, around 9pm local time - the greyline meridian was in the middle of the Atlantic getting close to Brazil. I was doing other things in the shack so left 6m monitoring around dusk, nothing for ages then suddenly signals from SA started appearing - no other propagation, no EUs. Fascinating.

Another good day on 6m with Africa coming in.

But the real surprise was 8m: as well as ZS6WAB/B, several of us copied WM2XEJ on 40.680 FT8, he went right up to +17dB here despite just receiving with a 6m yagi and he only had 100W to a vertical. I think that maybe the first occasiona of the MUF so high east-west. Still some way to go to 6m, but very promising.

I would image the - I always take my 6M antennas down at the end of August - bunch will be kicking themselves! :D

Typically, I took mine down a few days ago to fix a fault, SWR wandering about so I suspect water in the balun. :banghead:
Just need a dry, calm, day to sort it and put it back up.

I'm probably too far north but one never knows.

Cheers

Tony

Post Re: 6m and 8m
yep very good propagation .
worked 5V7RU yesterday for atno
TZ4AM was 59+ on SSB too .
reminds me of the last F2 on 6 20years ago, north south paths are always first to open.
I was also hearing the USA station on 40680 FT8 , first time this cycle so MUF is increasing .
excellent signs .

just switched on and theres TT8SN S9 on the meter on FT8 , must be F2 at that strength.
