Post subject:  simple swr indicator

Just had to make another indicator and thought i would post it here , not the greatest or most sophisticated design but a proved design that works well and can be built into very small spaces ..

components
RV1 -10K This is useful for adjusting the brightness of the LED i put in place of the meter. R1/2/3 50ohm carbon resistors 2 watt .R4 1K (0.5w), C1/2 10nf , D1 OA91 or similar.I made a 4 watt version that went inside my mfj cub

you can ommit points one on the diagram , i can't remember what they were for in the original design. i just have a simple switch , in line or out

i have actually built one directly on the back of a DPDT switch before today ..

Thanks Billy. Looks just the job for use of a spare meter I have from a blown VSWR bridge. Where do I place a VR to calibrate?

Switch position 1 is the "Cal" position. If you had calibrated the meter in terms of SWR, you would first switch to position 1 and adjust the Tx output (or adjust RV1) for FSD. Then switch to position 2 to read the SWR.

If you're not interested in measuring the SWR you don't need that switch position.

Thanks for that steve , wasn't sure about that as i have never used a meter with that design , i always just use an LED for an indicator only .. If i'm not mistaken there is an explination of the thing on the GQRP club site .
