Hi I resaearched this quite a bit. In my opinion its a non resonant antenna with a lossy transformer to keep the thing looking like 50ohms. I would prefer other options so I am still looking. have a look at the previous discussion at viewtopic.php?f=43&t=24851&p=106680&hilit=dual+beam#p106680 Dual beam pro, opinions please Andy |

ive invested in the dual beam pro after i had a chat with a guy in the states. then antoher local guy had a word with him . the other local guy was using the dual beam and he got a x2 better report from the states side guy . im well impressed with the antenna so far ive worked and heard stations in the carribean at 8pm at night on 24mhz . its doing what the guy says on the box . the rx side of things is up by at least 2 s points |

a double ham whip dipole . using 2 sets of whips at about 30ft . it worked very well on all of the band from 14 to 6m still using them on rx in living room |

excuse my aparent ignorance but is that a mobile whip? If so I agree its not an ideal yard stick. Andy |

yes it was a 7ft fire stik 5/8 wave about a foot smaller in size .but if you look at eham a lot of comparisons are made agaist a dipole . i had a mv10 for a while and both out perform the mv 10 |

I can't quite follow the Quote: 7ft fire stik 5/8 wave about a foot smaller in size ![]() A foot shorter than what and, if it's 7ft long, what frequency is it a 5/8 on? Considering 2 S points is 12dB that's a huge difference! Cheers Tony |

Healer. As I understand it your comparing two 11m Firestick (mobile) antennas made into a dipole with the pro beam. If thats the case all your proving is that a car antenna is not a great multiband dipole. It will work (I often use a Partridge Joystick so accept compromises) but not well. As Tony says a dipole is the usual referance. The pro beam is a compromise antenna, but apparently liked by some just as are the many multiband unun matched long wire and verticals out there. Good luck with it. Andy |

Healer, If you fancy experimenting with that antenna at some stage, try removing the coax/balun and feed it directly with open-wire line from a good tuner. 73, Steve G3TXQ |

Cheers Tony Manufacturers BS I'm afraid, quite often the manufacturers of linear loaded CB antennas describe them as electrical 5/8 WL due to the length of wire used in their construction, a lot of people are pulled in by this poetic licence and regurgitate it ad nauseum ![]() |

What we used to call kidolgy. ![]() Pretend technology (kidding) used to be rife. When I was involved in communications, professionally, we were frequently approached to repair stuff the "rig doctor" had failed with, or broken. ![]() Obviously we didn't. It was more than your job was worth, to allow it, as well as the other obvious reasons for not getting involved, but some of the quotes/explanations would have made an amazing comic book. ![]() Everything from a fluorescent tube in the antenna system producing better signals, to short antennas with huge gain figures through hearing things "off the moon". The defining constant was never to allow reality to spoil a good piece of hocus pocus. ![]() Seems some things never change. Cheers Tony |
